Te Whenua

The land that holds us

Ōariki sits on working whenua cared for by Te Houpoto Te Pua 123 Trust. This is land that is lived on and worked — paddocks, gardens and open ground that give the lodge its space and its everyday rhythm.

Wake to gardens full of morning light. Walk fence lines and farm tracks, and feel the ground lift from flat pasture toward the hills. It is quiet, unhurried, and tended with care.

Our Kaitiakitanga

We do not simply own this place — we have a responsibility to care for it.

Caring for the whenua is a daily responsibility for the Trust, not an idea. Healthy soil, tended gardens and well-kept land are how we keep Ōariki able to provide — for guests now, and for those who will inherit it.
